Dear Partners and Friends,
Covid-19: Precautionary BVSC building closure
It has come to our attention that a member of BVSC staff has, on the advice of their GP, begun self-isolating. At this point their symptoms are mild, but in-keeping with those of the coronavirus. The staff member in question has done the responsible thing in informing us. My HR team is in regular contact with them and we are keeping track of their welfare. All their direct significant contacts have now been informed and briefed.
Given the nature of their role, I have taken the decision to close the BVSC building with immediate effect in order to carry out a deep-clean. This closure will be operational for at least the next week (Monday 16th March – Friday 20th March). We have contacted all tenants and conference organisers whose work will be impacted by this decision. Please refer to our website at www.bvsc.org for updates.
Although we don’t believe that any other staff members, building residents, or meeting visitors have been placed at undue risk through contact with the individual concerned, we feel it is better to err on the side of caution and to take firm steps now to protect everyone’s health and wellbeing.
Please be aware that whilst the BVSC building is closed, BVSC itself is still operational. Most staff will be working from home in the coming days in order to continue to deliver as full a range of our services as possible. If you have any queries or concerns, you can reach staff through their usual email addresses and work mobile numbers (where these have been provided to you). Whilst perhaps becoming necessary sooner than we would have liked, these measures were planned for as part of our business contingency arrangements and we anticipate minimal disruption to our normal work.
We are also working hard with community and voluntary sector colleagues and partners in Adult Social Care and Public Health to build and coordinate an appropriate and collective response to the coronavirus outbreak. Our key priority is to ensure that the isolated, vulnerable, and high-risk individuals within our communities are fully supported and feel fully connected in the coming times of ‘self-isolation’ and ‘social distancing’. We will be announcing our plans shortly, and we warmly welcome your support, participation, ideas, and offers of help.
These are challenging and concerning times for all of us - but we believe there will be nothing we can’t achieve if we pull together and lend each other a listening ear, an encouraging word, and a practical helping hand in the weeks and months to come.
With warmest wishes for the good health of you and yours,
Chief Executive, BVSC

BVSC Conferences & Meeting Rooms in Birmingham
BVSC offers versatile and modern meeting rooms and conference facilities right in the centre of Birmingham and just five minutes walk from both New Street and Moor Street stations.
Our conference centre has 8 DDA compliant meeting rooms with movable partitions that offer you complete flexibility. Our largest space can accommodate a conference of up to 180 delegates and we have a number of smaller rooms that are ideal for meetings, training courses, seminars and interviews.
As a social enterprise we offer excellent value for money and all our profits are reinvested in our facilities as well as our core work supporting Birmingham's voluntary sector.
At BVSC the health and safety of our staff and visitors is our top priority. Like many businesses in the UK, we are closely monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and the information provided by Public Health England (PHE).
At your conference, we would like to encourage you and your conference delegates to:
- wash their hands frequently, especially as they come into and leave the building; when they use the toilets and before and after they consume food and drinks on the premises to minimise the risk of contracting or spreading the virus.
- cover their mouths and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing (extra tissues can be provided) and use the bins provided just outside the conference rooms.
- familiarise yourself with the latest guidance from Public Health England and do not visit BVSC if you are displaying symptoms of COVID 19 and are advised to self-isolate.
- to keep a full list of all delegates attending today. Should any delegate report symptoms and have to either self isolate or are confirmed as having the virus, please let us know immediately so that we can manage the situation in line with PHE guidance.
- Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further queries or questions we can help with. We hope you have a great conference.
